Two New Teachers Begin the 2013-2014 School Year

A Class Act

Filling vacancies in the English and Mathematics departments, Heather Rosemann and Ryan Donnelly have begun their teaching careers at CFHS.

Heather Rosemann

When asked how she came to teach at Cannon Falls High School, Ms. Rosemann laughingly replied, “There was a job opening and I applied. Luckily, I got the job!” More seriously, she explained that growing up in the Twin Cities led her to search for a job closer to home. She is enamored with the local scenery. “When I first moved here I didn’t realize that there were actual waterfalls in town, so…this past summer…when I was walking around over by the VFW, and I walked down to feed the geese that were in the pond…I thought: oh my gosh, waterfalls!” She also noted that Lake Byllesby is a distinguishing feature of Cannon Falls, but her favorite aspect “would have to [be] the community feel, the camaraderie. I was really impressed when at the talent show when even if people on stage were kind of struggling, the audience and the students stepped up and and cheered people on.” Close to home, in a friendly community, life in Cannon Falls is no hardship. After all, according to Ms. Rosemann, driving seventeen miles to the nearest Target has been her greatest challenge so far.

Ryan Donnelly

A sea of new faces and names to learn comes with the usual first day of school butterflies. It’s hard – not only on the students, but the teachers (especially the new teachers). Ryan Donnelly is the new algebra teacher at Cannon Falls High School. He has previously had multiple opportunities to test the waters for his teaching skills. These included being the instructor of Farmington’s summer school geometry course, and working part-time at both Simley High School and Eagle Ridge Junior High, making Cannon Falls the beginning of his full-time teaching career.  Donnelly says, “I became a math teacher because I have always enjoyed math, and was good at helping others learn it. I also had numerous teachers and coaches growing up that I looked up to as role models….”  It helps that he grew up in the area, since Mr. Donnelly was brought up in Farmington. Hopefully Mr. Donnelly has good luck in his first year here and manages to remember every one of his 147 students’ names.
