“Well….one of the all time great performances as a team today, Bomber Strength Athletes,” was posted by coach Scott Safe on CF Bomber Athlete Weightlifting Facebook page. A summary of the fantastic results of the Rosemount meet couldn’t have been said any better. Three school records and two state records were broken by two of Cannon’s own lifters. Both of the new JV state records and two JV school records are now held by freshman Chase Schaefer with her massive 77kg (169.4lbs) clean-and-jerk and her towering 138kg (303.6lbs) total. The men’s JV 77kg weight class snatch record, that was once held by Andrew Egge, is now held by Mason Hofstedt at a hefty 79kg (173.8lbs). Cannon ended the meet with eight first places medals and thirteen others placing, and overall conquering the platforms.

At the Northfield vs. Cannon Falls meet the Cannon weightlifting teams, JV and Varsity, also came out on top. Even at a small single platform meet the energy from the athletes and supporters was palpable. The encouraging aura between Northfield and Cannon lifters was inspiring.  The state meet, without a doubt, should continue to carry this same spirit. These results on top of earlier successes make the Cannon weightlifting team undoubtedly one of the teams to beat as the season draws to a close. Cannon Falls weightlifters will be competing in the state meet on March 7th at Lakeville South High School where supporters will see just how lively a gymnasium can be.
