From the designer dresses that are worn for posing on the infamous red carpet to the golden gramophone that is given to the winning artists, the Grammys are nothing short of fabulous. This year, viewers from at home and at the show were entertained with performances by the hottest names in music such as Beyonce, Imagine Dragons, Taylor Swift, and many others. Katy Perry performed her new hit single, “Dark Horse” with Juicy J, wearing a glamorous suit that matched the eerie fantasy set on the stage. In parallel, Taylor Swift stripped away the stage effects leaving nothing but her playing the piano in a elegant gown to her original song, “All Too Well.” Last but not least was Imagine Dragons’ performance with Kendrick Lamar, mashing their two hit songs,” M.A.A.D. City” and “Radioactive” to create an epic performance no one will soon forget. Their outfits, which were pristine white before the performance, were covered in red paint from the stage effects when they went to do an interview after they won “Favorite Alternative Rock Artist of the Year.”

The Grammys were overflowing with fresh performances from contemporary artists including Macklemore, Lorde, and Daft Punk. Each of these artists ended the night taking home multiple awards. Macklemore received the titles “Best New Artist”, “Best Rap Performance”, “Best Rap Song”, and “Best Rap Album.” He also gave a stellar performance that evening of his hit “Same Love”, preaching the power of love and marriage equality. Daft Punk, a duo of electric robot men, won the awards for “Record of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, “Best Pop Duo Performance”, and “Best Dance Album.” The mystery continues to remain as the two ceased from revealing their true identities, beneath their iconic chrome helmets. Receiving “Best Pop Solo Performance” and “Song of the Year” was Lorde, an Indie singer/songwriter and New Zealand native. Each artist has an altered sound and diversity to their music from the past year.

An extraordinary part about the award show was the special glimpses that it gave viewers to mystical music moments from the past. The reunion of Paul Mccartney and Ringo Starr on the Grammy Stage transported us back in time to the 1960s. Artists like Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, and Willie Nelson performed current melodies with a bit of their own style.

Madison Sesker, a Junior at Cannon Falls, said with a smile,”My favorite part of the Grammys was obviously the opening because Beyonce and JayZ sang Drunk in Love. It was really cool. I also loved when Ryan Lewis and Macklemore won best new artist and JayZ and Justin Timberlake won best rap collaboration. They really deserved it and it was fun to see them win. ”

Wether it is the glamourous gowns, the elaborate performaces, or the well-deserved awards, the Grammys have something special everyone can look forward to.
