Back For More

Bomber dancers once again show their prowess at the state contest

March 7, 2016

The Bomber Dance Team performed their “Back For More” routine for the last time on a normal high school gym floor at the Section 2A championship on February 6th. Fortunately the girls had an impressive performance, and were rewarded with another week of the season, as well as the opportunity to nail both of their dances another time at the Target Center. High Kick took the section championship in first place, and the jazz team was the section runner up in second. This was the first year since 2013 a Cannon Falls jazz team has advanced to the state dance tournament.

On February 11th the dancers enjoyed a boisterous team dinner in Minneapolis, and on the morning of February 12th the jazz team arrived at the Target Center determined to have the best performance of the season. That’s exactly what they did, as the whole stadium was left awestruck by the grand performance. When the results came around the jazz dancers were disappointed in not advancing to finals, but were still delighted to find themselves ranked 10th best in the state.

Saturday, February 13th was the kick team’s turn to dance over the Timberwolf in front of their army of roaring fans.  With russians sky high in the air and kicks to their noses, the team put on a great show and were delighted to advance to finals. If the crowd enjoyed their preliminary run, they were sure in for a treat when it came time for the last performance of the season. The Bombers have been known to peak during state finals, and the girls proved that this time was no exception. In the end, the BDT was ecstatic to place fourth in the entire state of Minnesota.

In short, the Bomber dance team lived up to their “Back For More” motto, conjuring up a new wave of success in the single A division. Senior captain Mckenna Bauer commented “Every single competition I feel we had such solid performances, but each week the team never failed to impress me. You can tell which teams can handle the pressure of state, and Cannon never fails to deliver. I’m so proud of everything the girls put into this season.”  Although they didn’t return with any medals, they still had an incredibly successful season, and spectators can expect to see more victory from the team next year!
