Seniors go on a Bear Hunt

Beards, Bears and Bombers

Despite the fact that it was only the second week of school, this year’s Homecoming was a grand success. The confusion of new hallways, teachers, and locker combinations didn’t stop the students from giving it their all. Their spirit, students’ and staff’s alike, were tested throughout the week with dress up days, exciting pep fests, moose hugs, and other activities.

The week started off with the crowning of King Max Rueger and Queen Emma Thomley. Our atrium was packed with community members, parents, and students all bowing to our royal court. “It was an honor to wear the crown all week, and I’m sure Max enjoyed wearing his ice cream bucket too,” says Thomley.

Student Council did a great job at choosing dress up days that everyone could easily plan for. Themes included America, Tacky Tourist, Wacky Wednesday, Baller vs. Scholar, and Bomber spirit day. Pep fests were emceed by seniors Bjorn Pearson and McKenna Bauer. A few activities that took place at the pep fests included boys Powerpuff, and a scavenger hunt.IMG_3274Paige Holt

Since it was the second week of school, the teachers had a great excuse to complain about all the interruptions and defocused kids that lingered around in their classrooms. Matthew Drucker, notably bearded ninth grade science teacher, explained this perfectly at the talent show in his song, “Wake Me Up When Homecoming Ends”. However, the staff held it together pretty well this year. The only combat that broke out was between Drucker himself, and art teacher Brett Zimmerman, during a game of “Human Hungry Hippos”.

The football game was played at John Burch Park on Friday, under the lights against the Byron Bears. There was an an amazing turnout of fired up fans; the bleachers and sidelines were both packed.  Despite the rain and cold winds, the boys put up a solid fight. In the end, everyone’s spirit pulled through, and Cannon Falls ended this year’s festivities with a bang at the Homecoming Dance, held in the gym. The school year may have just began, but this peppy Homecoming was a kick off for a great year.
