When Carley Norton walked into Spanish class on a typical Tuesday afternoon. She noticed something or perhaps someone was different. “We had a new teacher!” she exclaimed. The new teacher, Ms. Fontecha-Cuenca, is the Spanish Amity Teacher. She came to Cannon Falls all the way from Spain.

“I want to be a teacher in Spain, so for me it’s a really good thing to go to another country and look at how they’re teaching”, was her reply when I asked her why she decided to come and try teaching here in America. Fortunately she enjoys new experiences.

“One time I said to my family that the only thing that is the same in schools here, is that there are students.”

she exclaimed. She also mentioned that Cannon Falls has a better program with sports and other activities. “In Spain we usually don’t have that,” she explained.

“ I don’t have as much freedom here, although my host family helps me whenever I need.”  As some people may know, exchange students and Amitys are not allowed to drive within the duration of their time in America.

“She’s been a really good teacher!” exclaimed Carley. And as she walked out of class on that “not so typical Tuesday” she knew that she was going to enjoy this trimester class.
