Private Colleges

-Private schools emphasize the liberal arts. Some public schools do this as well, but liberal arts is the center of most private schools.

-Student faculty ratio is generally about 12:1. With an evaluation like that each student gets more personalized attention and help more often.

– In most private colleges the professors are full time faculty members.       (*)

-At a private school a typical class size would be 20-25 students, making it easier to have your voice heard, as well as understanding more.

-There is a heftier price due to not getting funding from the government. But since they have private sponsors, the amount of scholarships usually goes up. Scholarships are also purely based off merit.

-To quote Karen Backes, “One benefit would be the four year graduation rate. Typically at a private school the 4 year graduation rate is around 70%. This compares to around a 30%graduation rate for public institutions. (Again, I am using general categories—some schools have better percentages than others—both for private and public)”.
