The Bombers season is in full gear as the boys dribble their way into the playoffs. As of right now, the team has three wins and ten losses. After an overtime thriller against Hill-Murray, they headed to a very talented and potential state championship team in Waseca. The Waseca Bluejays swooped in and took the win. The score was 78-41. After Waseca, the boys traveled to Triton where they met a hot shooting team that night. After being down by 14 points the Bombers rallied back and took the venom right out of the Cobras. The final score was 50-48 and it was a win for the team. Feeling jubilant after the win, the team had another road game against the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights. The Bombers took control of the palace and beat Kenyon 59-50.

It was finally a home game for the team and it was against the Goodhue Wildcats. Goodhue had many guys on the bench because of injuries but they still played a solid game that night. Cannon competed very well throughout parts of the games but couldn’t put it all together. The Wildcats clawed their way out of Cannon with a win. Two days after the Goodhue loss, the Hayfield Vikings came to town. The Bombers jumped out to a good lead and had a good score at halftime. After halftime, Hayfield started sinking shot after shot and the final score was 54-44. The Vikings got the win. The home stint didn’t last long. They were to travel to Randolph for the holiday tournament.

Sleigh bells were jingling and Christmas was in the air as Cannon went to Randolph for the battle over Lake Byllesby. It was a very competitive game between both teams. Randolph lit up the scoreboard the first half and held Cannon to only thirteen points. Soon after halftime, Cannon made a tremendous comeback and even had a lead at one point but the team faltered to Randolph. The boys played well but lost 54-48 in the first round of the holiday tournament. Next game was against North Branch and it seemed to be a winnable game. Cannon had a firm hold on the lead until halftime once again. North Branch came out of halftime with ice in their veins. They took the lead and more. The final score was 75-58. It wasn’t such a jolly Christmas for the Bombers but they were looking to get back on track soon.

It was now 2017 and it was new year to start fresh for the boys. It looked like that was the case when they arrived at Bethlehem Academy. Cannon, yet again, jumped out to an eight point lead at halftime. Bethlehem started playing better defense and shot the ball much better the second half. Bethlehem Academy ended up taking the win with a score of 55-44. After Bethlehem Academy, Zumbrota came to town and beat Cannon in a very good game with the score of 58-46. Then in Dover Eyota, Cannon pulled out a narrow win. The next two games after Dover Eyota ended in losses against Kasson-Mantorville and Hayfield.

Even though the record isn’t what the team wants it to be, the Bombers are competing and getting better everyday. The team is looking to get on a run very soon so they can achieve a quality seed once playoffs roll around. Teams coming up should be well aware of a competitive and gritty Bomber group that’ll give them a run for their money. Their next two games are at Pine Island on Friday and on Saturday at home against Wabasha-Kellogg. Both games are at 7:15 pm.
