Lily French returns a shot in a winning effort vs. Northfield

The Bomber girls tennis team has gotten off to a scorching start this season. Led by captains Mckenna Bauer and returning state doubles runner-up Maddie Adel, as well as fellow seniors Lily French, Sarah Modrak, and Grace Rutter, the team has played its way to a 5-3 record.

The team also consists of juniors Bethany Nelson and Delanie Otto and sophomores Alex Stellrecht, Iris French, Kayla Melhouse, Mia Holscher, Molly Rolfes, and Taylor Jackson and freshman Paige Meist. Together, they have served their way towards sections. With a 2-1 conference record as well, The Bombers have dominated their conference competition and fought hard in the biggest match of the season September 8th against Lourdes, the team that kept the girls from a state appearance last year. In a hard fought match, the Bombers proved that they can contend with the best, suffering a tight 3-4 loss.

“It’s been a blast,” senior Lily French says of the season thus far. “We are really optimistic about our state chances next month.” The section tournament begins October 7th, and is a single elimination tournament seeded by overall record. The winner will likely earn a berth in state.
