‘Tis the season for blankets, blizzards, and basketball. On the night of Friday, December 2nd, the Cannon Falls Girls Basketball team played the second game of the 2016-2017 season against Belle Plaine. Although they were hoping for their first win, the Bombers sadly lost 46-49 that night, but put up a good fight.

Most of the audience would agree that the Bomber basketball team is a hard working bunch. Anyone could see the determination in their faces as they played throughout the whole game, and kept pushing to get ahead of Belle Plaine.

Starters for the game that night included Kara Loeschke (number four), Kaly Banks (number ten), Sandra Regenscheid (number fifteen), and Kira Jacobson (number twenty-two). The coaches are head coach, Samantha McCamy and assistant coach, Tyler Quinlan.

Junior Kaly Banks, who has been playing basketball for seven years, was disappointed about the loss but stays positive and is ready to win a game soon. “The season has just started so there’s a lot to work on,” she says. Banks didn’t take many shots, but hopes to rebound in her upcoming games. Loeschke says that the team could have “been more offensive,” if they were to have done one thing better.

Resilient player Kira Jacobson set a great example for her teammates throughout the game by keeping up the hard work and having a confident attitude about the match. Their competitors kept ahead, but that didn’t stop Jacobson from powering through.

Eleventh grader Tatum Pickar, a starting point guard who dons the number five, showed perseverance and persistence. Pickar and her little bun caught my attention in the first minute of the game. Being the shortest player on the team makes it harder to be a basketball player, but Pickar definitely knows how to jump over that obstacle. She may not have scored the most points on the court, but she sure did fight for the ball. Pikar’s hope for the next game is to “not foul out.” Come cheer for Tatum Pickar and the rest of the team at the next home game.
