After eight very impactful seniors graduated last year from the Cannon Falls boys basketball program, it is time for some fresh new faces. Although there are six seniors who acquired a little taste of varsity, they haven’t experienced the full spectrum yet. It is going to be a fun filled season with plenty of opportunities for learning. Last year, Cannon had a terrific season that ended with a blowout loss to Caledonia in the section championship game. This year, the boys are looking to keep up the tradition of winning their conference and making it to the Civic Center.

Leadership is a big quality that head coach Josh Davisson admires in his players off and on the court. The team captains this year, selected by coach Josh Davisson, are seniors Carlton Lindow, Jake Christenson, and  junior Ryan Dirckx. The boys’ first game was against Hill Murray High School and it proved to be one for the ages. There was a nervous buzz in the gym from the fans and it was electrifying. The court was so loud it could have been heard from all they way around the world.  Unfortunately, the Bombers faltered in overtime 71-67. Despite the loss, effort was high and the Cannon varsity team is hungry for more competition coming up.

Some big contributors to the game for the Bombers included Cobie Vagts with 16 points and Anthony Hurton, scoring 14 with two shots made beyond the three point mark. Their next game, a non-conference game, is against Waseca and then the boys start conference play on Friday in Triton. The Bombers will  have 14 away games and 10 home games this year. They will look to be road warriors for a while. This new breed of ballers are ready to wear some nets out, open some eyes, and go deep into the playoffs.
