CFHS skier Elliott Boman challenges the state downhill course

It is well past the days when Cannon Falls had an active ski club, but that hasn’t stopped one ambitious skier at CF schools: Elliott Boman. Four to five times every week Mr. Boman practices downhill ski racing at Welch Village. In the summer he travels to camps in Mt. Hood, Oregon, or even all the way to Europe.

Elliott competes at two levels. He races through mountains associated with the Big 9 conference, which include schools like Mankato, Northfield, and Redwing. Throughout the season Mr. Boman has won all of the conference meets and placed second in sections. He will be competing at the Minnesota state alpine skiing February 15th. Elliott does a lot more than just state skiing. As previously mentioned he travels internationally for practice, but also competes internationally in the Federation of International Skiing (FIS).

Since December Elliot has been competing in FIS competitions in Colorado, the Eastern United States, and even some European competitions. He will be racing in FIS meets all the way into March. As of now he has been placing in the top 10 of his age group.

Mr. Boman has quite the track record and skiing is definitely his biggest passion. Elliott has been skiing since age 6. “My parents let me try everything as a kid and skiing just kind of stuck the most,” said Elliot when asked why he chose to work so hard at skiing. He stated his biggest motivation to keep skiing is “the atmosphere” because it “gives off a different vibe than most sports.” Skiing is his passion because it is a unique sport and obviously his motivation and hard work have payed off.

The fact that CFHS doesn’t have a ski club anymore doesn’t stop Elliott Boman. Whether it’s the Rockies or mountains in Europe Elliott will tackle them skiis first. He is someone who has found their passion and is motivated to work hard, do well, and hopefully his hard work will be reflected in the State rankings.
