Coming off of a section championship, the Cannon Falls High School Math League Team is gearing up for their last two meets. Through three competitions, the team is currently in second place in the section and looking to chase down first ranked Rochester Lourdes to secure a spot at the State tournament.
Within each of the five meets that the team competes in for the regular season, there have been some major changes to the structure. In the past, there have been four individual events — A: Algebra, B: Geometry, C: Trigonometry/Statistics, D: Miscellaneous Topics — which a student would take two of; allowing for competitors to select the events they could do the best in. This year every student takes three tests which cover a majority of the content from the previous seasons requiring competitors to be more well rounded in their Mathematical Skills. With the extra content to learn, a formula sheet has been created which gives students some key formulas needed to complete the tests.
Going into the season the Math League team gained three new competitors. As the team looks past just this season, there is a lot of hope for the program continuing to grow with the large Middle School team. As veteran members begin to graduate, the team plans on looking to younger members to step up and bring in new members to sustain the highly successful program.
