Not one, not two, but three Cannon Falls High School seniors have signed and committed to continue their athletic careers in football. The Cannon Falls Bomber football team had a spectacular 2023 season with great regular season wins, sealing their victory in the section championship, and ending their season playing at U.S. Bank Stadium. Seniors Nicholas Barrett, Corbin Schroeder, and Samuel Shepersky committed to Southwest Minnesota State University shortly after their football season ended. They are excited for the soon-to-come academic and athletic successes within their next chapter after high school.
Schroeder explained he chose SMSU football because of the new atmosphere that developed on the football team two years ago after an entirely new coaching staff was hired. He will be able to contribute to their winning culture and further highlighted, “I really believe in the new coaches.” While attending SMSU, Schroeder will major in education. Adding to the winning culture mindset, Schroeder said that his senior year football season solidified his decision to play collegiate football. “The best thing about playing football is playing with your friends,” said Schroeder due to the shared hard work ethic amongst the team, which he hopes to bring into the Mustang football program as well.
As a future Mustang, Shepersky will balance football and school, with his major being in finance. He described his experience with the football program so far and mentioned that “the players seem nice and inviting.” Since communicating with the coaches, his experience through the commitment process has been good. Shepersky also commented on the newly recent Mustang program coaches, stating, “The coaching staff also seems to have a good plan for future years.” He is excited to continue his football career as a future Mustang.
In addition to inviting, nice players and coaches, Barrett expressed, “I liked the campus.” At SMSU, he will enjoy the campus’s many features, contribute to the positive culture of the football team, and major in finance. He is “excited for something new in life,” and ready to begin a new chapter after high school. Barrett is looking forward to his commitment to play football as a Mustang.
The 2023-2024 school year is rapidly winding down and graduation is approaching fast. We wish these three seniors — Nicholas Barrett, Corbin Schroeder, and Samuel Shepersky — the best of luck in their pursuit of athletics and academics at Southwest Minnesota State University.
