Drum roll, please
CFHS Homecoming 2014 kicked off with coronation ceremony
Girls twitch nervously as the moms snap pictures. Guys tug at their collars wishing they could be anywhere but on stage, in front of the whole town of Cannon Falls. People may ask what event could cause so much anxiety. This, my friends, is homecoming coronation 2014. Cannon Falls homecoming coronation opened with the entrance of the senior class, led by beloved teachers Kathy Illa and Holly Winget. After the class exchange student Inka Mattila was introduced she was escorted by Nick Lorentz. For a short interval, Brooklyn Hanson and Jonah Callister sang the lovely duet, “Falling Softly.” After listening to their harmonious voices the audience leaned forward in anticipation to see the Homecoming court.
The students were Tayler Banitt, Garrett Beach, Madeline Carlson, Keaton Welch, Sami Cromer, Jordon Flemmons, Leah Meyers, Carter Dombeck, Ashly Serres, Bryce Poppe, Lindsey Skaggs, Jonathan Sharot, Brooke Stein, and Jack Holscher. After the homecoming court was introduced, 2013 homecoming king and queen Maggie Rutter and Dylan Safe were brought onto stage. As an interlude Maddie Adele and Matt Lockett sang “Beneath Your Beautiful.” Audience members were awed by the beautiful tune, but quickly changed gears for the recognition of fall athletic teams and activities.
Melissa Huseth, Ben Schopp, captains Maddie Adel and Banitt, Anne Davisson, Josh Hofstedt, Heidi Zimmerman, Tanya Legvold, and captain Sydney Erhardt spoke for each extracurricular. Mr. Schopp stole the throne from Safe when speaking so he could hold the crowd’s attention. Other speakers were more geared towards inspiration such as football’s catch phrase this year, “Stand Tall”, which explains how to be confident after each game. Another interlude of music was “Hey Jude”, performed by Jacob Hanka, Dustin McElmury, and Poppe. After the last song, the moment of crowning was present. Drum roll please? Cannon Falls Homecoming king is Dombeck and queen is Carlson.
