Cannon Falls High School Band and Choir members have been waiting to perform their Christmas songs to their parents and community and finally got their chance in December. Both Band and Choir performed two songs normally and a third in a unique way. The December 10th and 16th performances both turned out great.
On December 10th the Cannon Falls Choir had their winter performance. The High Schoolers sang “The First Noel” arranged by PinkZebra, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” arranged by Jay Althouse, and “Sweet Silent Night” by Andy Beck. While “The First Noel” and “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” were high school choirs, only “Sweet Silent Night” was a production by the Cannon Falls mass choir. The mass choir was made up of everyone who was in the choir, from as young as sixth grade, all the way to twelfth grade. Mrs. Anna Broring has been teaching choir for five years but this is her first year here at Cannon Falls. Mrs. Broring said, “My favorite part of the concert was the final mass choir song. It was very rewarding to hear all of my students sing together on “Sweet Silent Night,” and I know the audience enjoyed it as well.” Overall she thought the entire concert was a success and thought it showed growth and improvement from all groups since the fall concert.
Almost a full week later on December 16th, the Cannon Falls Band performed. When asked what she would change about the band concert Miranda Mandelkow, a tenth-grade band and choir student, replied, “I wish we could have dressed up with Christmas stuff.” High school band performed “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano, “Highlights from Fiddler on the Roof” by Joseph Stein, and “Nutcracker Suite” by Tchaikovsky. Both Highlights from “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Nutcracker Suite” were led by Mr. Mike Legvold, whereas “Feliz Navidad” had Legvold participating by playing the sleigh bells in the back with percussion. Many people think the band concert went really well as not only were the songs amazing Christmas songs but the high schoolers had spent about a month perfecting them.
Overall this year’s winter band and choir concerts were a huge success. Both groups played great and can’t wait for their new music and next concert. If anyone would like to watch or listen to either the band or choir concert, they can find them on the Cannon Falls Hudl page, or come to their next concert.
