Madison Burr committed to SDSU to continue her volleyball career.

Senior Madison Burr has been a long time member of the varsity volleyball team at Cannon Falls. Burr has been a member of the team for an astounding five years, since she was in eighth grade, and started for four of the five years. After making a remarkable run with the Bombers, making it to the Minnesota State Volleyball Tournament twice, and winning the tournament once, Burr will be furthering her athletic and academic career at South Dakota State University (SDSU).

SDSU is a member of the NCAA and is in division one, the highest level of competition within the NCAA. Burr made a verbal commitment to attend SDSU in 2022, on August 25th. Her verbal commitment came when she was a junior at Cannon Falls High School, however, she did not officially sign until November 9th, 2023, during her senior year at Cannon Falls High School.

In her time at SDSU, Burr will be studying for a major in construction management and a minor in interior design while she plays volleyball. Although Burr is expecting to play outside or right side on the court, there is a chance she may play middle. There were multiple reasons why Burr was attracted to SDSU: the short distance of the university from Cannon Falls, the campus, the atmosphere surrounding athletics, and the coaches.

Up to this point, Burr has participated in volleyball camps at SDSU and she explained, “[I] spent a weekend with the volleyball team during my official visit.” With this, she got to know the team and its coaches.

Going into college is a big step for all students with lots to look forward to. Since Burr is going to be a student athlete, her experience in college will be different than many. When asked what she is most looking forward to, she responded with, “meeting new people, traveling, and just playing.”

As for the Bomber volleyball team, they will be losing a valuable asset at the net. Burr has been a big blocker and hitter for the Bombers, but she is ready to further her academic and athletic career at SDSU.
