“Yes!” screams Tucker Nobach jubilantly, as he is named Quidditch Captain for the new Cannon Falls Schools Quidditch team. The school has finally paid attention to the demands of countless students, and the school will now form a Quidditch team. This team will be made up of only the finest Chasers, Beaters, a Keeper, and Seeker. The players are as follows; Seeker Lola Wichell, Keeper Bella Boyum, Chasers Brekkyn Ayres, Isla Harrison, and Avery Schaffer, Beaters Lillian Olund, and Captain Tucker Nobach, who is also team captain. The announcer for these games is Finn Peterson. These players are the best of the best Quidditch players in Minnesota.
Since Cannon Falls Schools have finally met their own students’ demands, the students of the school are starting a petition to have other towns in Minnesota start Quidditch teams at their schools so the team has competitors to play against. Right now, the team has only had practices every day after school and team scrimmages on the weekends. However, the school has a feeling that soon enough there will be school Quidditch teams across the state, maybe even the country.
When asked about this monumental new team, Lola Winchell replied “I am exhilarated to be a part of this amazing team. I can’t believe all my hours of practicing Quidditch in the backyard paid off.” This team is as Winchell said, “Awesome.” It is the first Quidditch team at Cannon Falls, and the school couldn’t be more excited for this new sports team.
The game of Quidditch for those unfamiliar, is fairly simple. The Quidditch field has three hoops/rings, high in the air, on both sides of the arena. There are seven players per team, not including backups. The team members are; 2 Beaters, 3 Chasers, 1 Keeper, and 1 Seeker. The Keepers block their hoops so the other team can’t score on them. The Chasers try to make the Quaffle into the other team’s hoops. The Beater tries to hit the Bludgers on the opposite team. The Seeker has to find and catch the Snitch to earn 150 points and end the game, usually winning as well. The balls in the game are the Quaffle, Bludger, and the Snitch. The Quaffle scores the points via the hoops, and the Bludgers try to hit people off their brooms; either by themselves or after a Beater hits them. The Snitch is a small golden ball that flies around the stadium quickly as the Seeker tries to catch it and end the game. By the way, this is all happening on flying broomsticks.
The game of Quidditch is a wonderful sport that requires focus, agility, perseverance, and determination. This is a sport that many have heard of, but only a few, talented, lucky people get to play, and the students and faculty of Cannon Falls Schools couldn’t be more delighted with this addition to our school.
