This film starts by introducing a new character, Kiara. She is shown talking to Rafiki, Pumba, and Timon. She asks Rafiki to tell the story of her grandfather’s upbringing. So, he starts to tell the story of Mufasa. Rafiki’s story opens with a catastrophic flood in which Mufasa loses his parents but not before telling him about an eternal heavenly place, Milele. As a result, he sets it as his lifelong goal to go there. After the flood, Mufasa gets saved by a little cub named Taka and his mother. Since Mufasa lost his parents, they kept him. Taka and Mufasa soon grow up as brothers. Once they are older, Taka’s pride figures out that another pride of white lions is planning on attacking them. The white lions want to attack Taka’s pride, because they believe they are the royal family, not Taka’s. Then, Taka’s dad sends him and Mufasa away so they don’t get killed. On their way, they find out that the pride of white lions is hunting them instead because they don’t want Taka to become the king. The rest of the film follows what Mufasa and Taka decide to do next. They also meet some old favorites from The Lion King: Zazu the bird, Rafiki, and Sarabi.
