A record-breaking sweep

For the first time in HVL history, one team swept each of the 13 speech categories.

CFHS conference champions celebrate after taking first place in each of their categories.

On Monday, March 14, the CFHS speech team packed up their bags early, leaving class at 1:45 to drive up to Kasson-Mantorville in time for their HVL Conference meet. 

At the end of the night, Cannon Falls took first with an unprecedented win; boasting category champions in each of the thirteen categories, ending up with 14 category champions overall. 

Never before in the HVL Conference has any one team taken first place in every category, marking a record-breaking night  for the CFHS speech team and the Hiawatha Valley League Conference.

Category champions were Fletcher Churchill in Creative Expression, Ashton Beyer in Discussion, Kendall Lawless in Drama, Kendahl Zimmerman and Bowen Maki in Duo, Ava Brokate in Extemporaneous Reading, Lydia Pedersen in Extemporaneous Speaking, Connor Loeschke in Great Speeches, Cannon Quade in Humorous, Bianca Caputo in Informative, Emily Barrett in Original Oratory, Trisitn Qualey in Poetry, Jessica Baszuro in Prose, and Lauren Ritz in Storytelling.
