With hard work and determination, the Bomber football team made it to the Section Championship for the fourth consecutive year. Although their season was cut short with a final score of 14-21 against the Central Area Raiders, the 2024 team made tremendous progress throughout the season.
Ten seniors led this year’s team; their tremendous leadership and hard work will be greatly missed next year. Senior Magnus Swanson expressed that the thing he will miss most about Cannon Falls Football is seeing the guys at practice every day with whom he has played football throughout his high school career. He also shared that the team had solid chemistry. Swanson said, “Fall camp is a grind where we lean on each other to get through the toughness, which carries into season.”
Throughout the season, the Bombers made a significant amount of progress. Senior Jack Meyers explained the boys’ biggest strengths were their speed and physicality. He said, “Our offense is so fast that the defense doesn’t have time to react.” Meyers added that by the 4th quarter, teams are ready to be done because the line is so physical. Another important thing that helped lead the team to success was guys stepping up throughout the season when they needed them to. The Bombers realized somewhere they needed work was the ability to score quickly towards the end of the games, but it is something they will work on during the off-seasons to hopefully see growth in that aspect for the next year.
In addition to all of the progress shown, three senior boys broke Cannon Falls records during the 2024 season. Preston Schoenfelder now leads for career touchdowns and career points scored, August Wagner leads in career sacks and tackles for a loss, and Jack Meyers tied the current record for career interceptions.
Senior Tysen Lind expressed Chatfield was their toughest competition. He explained, “They were a bigger and more physical team. Something they gained on the Bombers was they could tackle well and also were good at moving the ball on offense. Lind shared that the team’s main focus for this football season was to get better each day so that they were ready to win each week. Every day the Bombers came ready to work and can confidently say they were on track with their main focus.
The 2024 Bomber Football team had an overall record of 7-3 with great competition. The boys are eager to get back on the field already and have set high standards for the 2025 season.
