Spring is here, and with it comes softball. This year’s unusually warm weather starts the spring sports off strong and reflects the prospects for this year’s softball team. Last year the team only won two games, but softball senior, Delaine Otto, says it will “definitely be better.” The team had their first game last Tuesday against St. Croix Lutheran Schools and won 15-5, beginning the season not only with warm weather but with a strong foot forward.

The softball team didn’t lose many players from last year, thus the team has a lot of returning players who have played together for years. On top of not losing many players, this year the team has five seniors: Delaine Otto, Sandra Regenscheid, Jenna Kremers, Bobbi Cromer, and Amanda Holscher. Delaine Otto, after taking a one year break from softball, is back on the team this year and in an interview talked about how the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams support each other. All the varsity girls stayed to watch and encourage the JV team. Granted, some girls from varsity play JV, but usually only as pitchers. The fact that the two teams aren’t very separate helps to create an easy transition for girls going from JV to varsity in years to come.

Last year was definitely not the best year for Cannon Falls Softball, but this year is already looking up. the team haas compiled 3 wins in its first seven games, scoring an impressive 48 runs in those games.  With a strong foot forward, pleasant weather, and strong teamwork the teams will continue to improve and cheer each other on.
