CFHS volleyball team has a winning season despite losing veterans from last year
Describing the Bomber Volleyball Season in a sentence, Captain Hailey Huseth exclaims, “It was a very interesting, exciting and fun year.” The Bomber’s record is 15-13 with some pretty close games against some very good teams. Their final regular season game was a loss against Pine Island on October 18th. With the whole season bouncing back and forth between wins and losses the Bombers had their ups and downs.
One of those close games was against Kenyon-Wanamingo, but it had a bit of a twist that made it unique. The night was called #teamnat for Natalie Hildebrandt, a volleyball player from Kenyon who has been battling cancer. The night had various events that transpired before the volleyball game. They had a silent auction in support of Hildebrandt along with the Cannon Falls and Kenyon football teams tug of war. Knowing they helped with a good cause made losing the volleyball game and tug of war for the Bombers a little easier.Mary Franz
Asking Huseth what the focus of this year was she said, “They were focusing on learning to work together and rebuild after losing some very talented seniors.” The Bombers have a young team this year with 5 Freshmen, 6 juniors and only 3 seniors. Learning to work with some new younger girls this year was a challenge they overcame. “Our best part is our defense.” says Huseth when asked what they are playing like this year. Watching them play off of some really hard hits people can’t help but agree that the Bombers defense is strong.
