With a stunning record of 4-1, the Bomber football team is truly putting their 2022 season motto, “All Gas, No Brakes,” into play. This year the Bombers are led by five senior captains: Jonathan Banks, Colten Black, Isaac Fehling, Colton Otto, and William Regenshied.

The football team started their season off strong with victories against Goodhue, Zumbrota, and Plainview-Elgin-Milville— the team that beat the Bombers last year in the section championship. Banks claimed that “the PEM game was huge for us.” He explained that last year’s section championship game was on everybody’s mind that week of practice and the game, so it was reassuring to come out with the win.

Otto, the quarterback of the team, stated that, as team, the Bombers main goal is to come out on top and get a chance to play at the US Bank Stadium. Banks added that the team this year wants to win state. “We are willing to do whatever it takes. We play with absolute unselfishness— it doesn’t matter who crosses the goal line, that touchdown belongs to the team,” Banks stated. According to Banks, the Bombers offense is going very well because of their ability to drive the ball up the field. But, nevertheless, there is always room for improvement. Both Banks and Otto agreed that “we need to improve on many of the little things, like our backfield footwork and a few minor blocking things like keeping our head on the correct side.”

The Bombers have four regular season games left, including their homecoming game on October 14 against Pine Island. They have yet to face Rochester Lourdes, Le Crescent, and Caledonia.

“Personally, I am looking forward to the playoffs because I think we have something to prove,” Banks said. Until then, the football team is taking things week by week, and not looking too far ahead. “The most important game is always the next one,” Banks finished. Otto said that he is looking forward to “keeping our momentum going and earning the opportunity to keep playing our best.”

According to the Minneapolis Associated Press, Cannon Falls is number one in Class AAA, as voted upon by a number of statewide prep sports writers.
