Amity gets his kicks at CFHS

CFHS’ amity teacher from Columbia has a passion for soccer

Hola! Bienvenidos a la clase de Español! Spanish class is the place where you can get away from all the homework, all the problems with English, and just relax. For Holman Marino Cusba, the Colombian Amity that helps Señora Mercer teach, English is his second favorite language. Holman also is quite the adventurer, from staying in Cannon Falls, to viva Las Vegas.

He didn’t go to Vegas to gamble; he was selected to play fut-sala, or indoor soccer. The field is around the size of a basketball court, only five players are out on the field, and each game only lasts twenty minutes. He has had muchas experiences with this sport, playing professionally in Brazil for two years.  If this doesn’t seem like a big enough deal yet, he was able to get a complimentary round trip flight and lodging to play the game.

While he was there from Feb. 18-24, they played seven games. His team was a mix of players from around the world. Eric and Adrian were from Mexico living in New York and Nevada. Salamon was from Gana but is now living in Nevada, and he plays for the Red Bull professional fut-sala team. With a team this great they made it far, with a record of 4 win-1 tie-3 losses. As they made it through sections, they finally lost when there were only sixteen teams left out of the 120 total teams.

“It was awesome!” exclaimed Holman. What he enjoyed more than the soccer however, was the sights. “My favorite part was the boulevard street with all the hotels. We stayed in the MGM and that’s a cool hotel.”

Now that the Colombian Amity is back, life in la clase de Español got a little bit better and  easier. This experience is a memory he can keep for the rest of his life.
