Southeast Minnesota College, Career, and Job Fair had a great turnout. There were many great vendors and activities present. Many were looking forward to the event, Cannon Falls having hosted the event for the past two years, this year being its third. In this article there are a couple of interviews from Midwest Machinery and the University of Minnesota Duluth. There were many other booths and vendors like Olmstead and any major for people interested in the medical field.
Kurt Krieger was at the recent career fair for Midwestern Machinery that happened March 4th he is a “corporate aftermarket manager looking for interns, applicants, kind of behind the scenes doing training all kinds of those different things that we need to work with our technicians and employees.” Krieger started, then continued with.“This is probably my biggest thing, the career fairs, the internships, and the training.” Kriger had volunteered to attend the fair. Kriger’s company chose to attend this career fair for many reasons, one might be because it’s a turnout of students and opportunities for them to find employees for the future. Keiger also said, “We’ve done this now, it must have been about 5 years.” Kriger said he enjoys his job, he loves seeing people “move up the ladder” within his company.
There are some great activities like VR and just learning about the career. Some vendors had merchandise or information to take with them. Some of the merch was stickers, lanyards, fidgets, and toys, and some booths also had candy. There were over one hundred booths present for this career fair. Most vendors’ main focus was to get students interested but for the students that were interested they had more detailed information.
Brandon King also was working in the career fair, he came from the University of Minnesota Duluth. King’s exact job is as an admission counselor. When King was asked what it was like up in the U of M Duluth he said; “Yes so it’s actually nice, we’re five minutes away from Lake Superior. You can ride a bike down to Lake Superior, don’t ask how long it takes to get up the hills. It takes a little while but it’s nice because all of our buildings are interconnected so in the winter you never have to step outside. And also the nice thing about it is that a lot of our professors go by first name basis.” King had come down to the fair partly because it was part of his job but he also said “I also want you to come down here because I love to come down here anyways. It’s a good way to get close to the counselors and students.” King chose to work for Duluth because he loves the area, growing, and being able to reach out to other local areas. Duluth had decided to participate in the career college fair because they wanted to reach out to students in general. When he was asked if he enjoys his job he said “I love my job. I love being able to work with students. Especially for myself because I work a lot with our Native American community. I love that part of my job.” King is also part of the Native community himself.
This fair was a great success for some while a lot of fun for others. Many will look forward to next year’s fair in hopes of learning more. And for the seniors, they might see them in one of the future careers representing their college or career.
