“That was the worst breakup ever!” exclaims Madison Dettmann as she plays Katie in the Drama class’s play. Cannon Falls Drama class recently put on a show titled “The Thirteen Worst Breakups Of All Time,” for the whole school. The show covered the thirteen worst ways to get broken up with. Mrs. Schwartz teaches the drama class and directed the show.
“The Thirteen Worst Breakups of All Time” follows a girl named Kate. She claims she had the worst breakup ever. Eve, played by Hilari Palodichuk, works for a non-profit company who helps, “People maximize their potential.” Eve helps Katie realize her breakup wasn’t as bad as she thinks it was. They step into, “The Thirteen Worst Breakups of All Time,” getting slightly worse each time. Breakups ranging from getting broken up with through a karaoke song to guessing your getting broken up with through charades. Dre Menard who played Jennifer Stone stated, “My scene was the best.” Dre’s scene consists of Jennifer Stone breaking up with her boyfriend Eli through an altered version of, “It Must Have Been Love,” By Roxette.
The show was written by Ian McWethy. Drama teacher Mrs. Schwartz said, “The story behind this play is that I needed a play that everyone could do.” The options for shows for the drama class were a murder mystery, the show they performed and a pirate piece. The class decided to go with, “The Thirteen Worst Breakups Of All Time.” Mrs. Schwartz said, “Pirates would have been funny, but I knew some would be uncomfortable with a pirate voice.” So her choice for the piece was making sure it was in the best interest of the students.
Abby Roepke says her favorite break up out of all thirteen was, “The Proposal Scene,” including James Huseth who plays Tyler who breaks up with his girlfriend Julie by making it seem like he is proposing. With the proposal scene being the twelfth breakup Katie says that she’s good and doesn’t want to watch the last one, but Eve insists. The thirteenth and final breakup is Eve’s breakup. Her boyfriend Guy meets up with her at rehearsal and breaks up with her through a performance featuring the whole cast. Katie inevitably agrees that it was in fact the worst breakup ever.
During this show Haley Johnson said, “Even If it was only for that time I feel like we all grew closer. No matter what social group you’re usually in, everyone communicated and made some great memories.” This drama class clearly helps others grow closer with each other, make memories, learn new skills, and have fun.
