The scene was set with moody lighting, well dressed dining staff, and of course the smooth melodious tunes of Jazz. Jamming out in a jubilee of swing music and harmonious vocals, the guests of the April 17th ‘Slice of Jazz’ Concert were greeted with the musical stylings of the Cannon Falls High School and Middle School Jazz bands, the High School Jazz choir, and of course the reggae ensemble of the High School and Middle School steel drum troupes. The fundraiser event, organized by the Band Boosters organization, filled the house, offering a delicious spread of fine confectionery, topped off with a raffle, with prizes ranging from sugary treats to wood cabinets. Mr. Legvold went on record as saying, “For our first year running a raffle, I’d say it was a success.” He of course praised the performances of the bands stating, “I think the whole show was great, the kids were wonderful… All except Gabe” All of the festivities in combination with the impromptu comedy of the new Band Director Peter Dugan made for a rather good ‘Slice of Jazz’.
