As the calendar has turned to April, more and more Minnesota residents are receiving their COVID-19 vaccines according to the MDH (Minnesota Department of Health). In total, 2,050,888 people have received at least the first dose of their 2-dose vaccine series. Of those, 1,386,766 have received both doses. In the week of April 4, 319,031 people got a dose of the vaccine. Most of the people who are recipients of the COVID vaccine are either aged 18-49 or 65 and older. There are also many doses of the vaccine that have been shipped to Minnesota providers. In total, there have been 2,880,075 doses shipped to 890 providers to be given to people, most of which are either pharmacies or primary care clinics. There are also three vaccines that have been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for Emergency Use Authorization. Pfizer, the first to be approved, makes up 51% of all vaccines given to Minnesotans. Moderna, the second, makes up 44.4%. Johnson & Johnson, approved only a few weeks ago, makes up 4.5% of all doses given to people thus far.
At Cannon Falls Area Schools, starting April 12, students in the high school (grades 9-12) will be doing full-time distance learning until April 23, after which, the school’s COVID-19 advisory committee will reevaluate the situation. The middle school will continue hybrid learning for now. This comes after a recent increase in cases after the school switched to full-time, in-person instruction. This past week has brought three new cases of COVID to the school. One case caused 17 people to be quarantined, another had 19 quarantined, and the third was not contact traced at the time of the COVID advisory meeting.
In Goodhue County, on April 9 there were 144 active cases of COVID-19, according to the Goodhue County Department of Health and Human Services. Of those, 3 were hospitalized at that time. In total, there have been 4,282 cases and 71 deaths due to those cases. In Goodhue County alone, 18,450 people have at least one dose of their COVID vaccine. Of those, 12,792 have both.
On April 10 alone, 1,784 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Minnesota. According to the MDH, there were also 13 deaths due to COVID reported. In total, there have been 542,053 cases of COVID and 6,957 deaths.
According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), 466,431 people in the U.S. tested positive for COVID-19 in the week of April 3 to April 10. That same week, 4,795 died from COVID country-wide.
