Still some hoops to jump through

The Bomber girls basketball team has high hopes this season, despite having very few members come out for the team. After losing most of their games last year, the Bombers hope to string together some victories and accomplish their goal of improving upon the forward steps taken the last few years.

This year, the team consists of only three seniors: Hailey Huseth, Callie Loeschke, and Grace Rutter. With a young roster, this team looks to be David to the HVL Goliaths, such as perennial greats Kasson and Kenyon. It’s an upward battle, but they have the will and the strength to do what they believe they can.

The girls tipped off their season with a tricky schedule to navigate, starting with matchups against Minneapolis Patrick Henry, Kasson-Mantorville, and Byron. On December 1st, they beat Minneapolis Patrick Henry by a score of 42-35. Following the 1-0 start to the 2015-16 campaign came losses to Kasson (27-57) and Byron. Through one week of competition, the Bombers own a record of 1-2. “We have a lot of room for improvement,” said senior captain Callie Loeschke. “We can’t get much worse than last year, so there’s no pressure. But we want to keep moving in the right direction, improving as the season progresses.”

The Bombers will head off into the Christmas sunset after matches against Lake City on the 15th, Stewartville on the 18th, Belle Plaine on the 21st, and Lourdes on the 22nd.
