The Bomber boys basketball season came to an end in the subsection championship game February 28th, where they fell to the #1 seeded Rochester Lourdes. The loss marked the end of a strong surge by the Bombers in the 1AA subsection playoffs.

In the first round, the #6 seeded Bombers faced off against #3 Dover-Eyota, and pulled off a close upset with a 59-58 victory. The Bombers never led until late in the game, with a 53-52 lead, but they took charge when it mattered most, and it resulted in a solid victory. The Bombers advanced to challenge #2 Byron, a team they were 0-5 against the last two years. They got their revenge in resounding fashion, exacting a 54-52 victory. Also down for most of the game, the Bombers erased a ten point deficit with eight minutes remaining to advance to the championship, where they lost 42-49 to the top-seeded Lourdes.

The results in the playoffs shed light on the positive development of the team throughout the season. Despite a 10-18 overall record, 5-11 in the HVL, the Bombers were the only team in all of Section 1AA to pull off a road upset in the first round, and had two of the only three upsets total in the tournament. They grew as a team and were able to perform better, getting key wins and advancing despite the odds.

The team graduates two seniors: Kameron Holst and captain Jordan Flemmons. “It was a great way to end my career,” Flemmons said. “The playoff run we had was the highlight of the year and I wouldn’t have done it with anybody else.” As the majority of the starting rotation returns for another season, the Bombers are primed to use this year as kindling and light up the scoreboard next season.
