Captains of the court
Cannon Falls High School’s volleyball team gears up their season and they are striving for success.
In 2021, the Cannon Falls Bombers volleyball team set a goal to win their section championship and go to the state tournament for the first time in the school’s history. They succeeded. This year, the team has the same dream.
The Bombers set goals for their 2022 season and are guided by their senior captains: Kyra Schoenfelder, Elle Lind, and Rachael Miller. The varsity team includes returning players and girls filling in the roles of graduated players and making the position their own.
Schoenfelder is the libero for the Bombers and demonstrates leadership in the back of the court. She explained that the team’s biggest goal this year is to go to state again. “Overall, we want to have a good, competitive season with a winning record,” she stated. The Bombers have numerous competitive matches scheduled this season. Schoenfelder revealed that the teams to beat this year include Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Kasson-Mantorville, Byron, and Stewartville.
Miller is a right-side and middle hitter for the Bombers and says she looks forward to how far the season will go. Miller continued, “Our team chemistry is continuously expanding and progressing with each game.” She mentioned the team needs to pursue intensity during practices and games as well as work as a team on and off the court. She is excited about playoff matches and loves the competition this season.
The team plays their best when they have high intensity and constant communication. Lind, a middle hitter and leading blocker, expressed that they play their best games when the energy is high and the team can reach their full potential. She described, “The fan section brings lots of energy to the gym and we always love having friends and family there to cheer us on.” She said the team is building their connection with each practice or game and they only plan to continue to rise above from here.
Be sure to watch for any Bomber volleyball matches this season; you don’t want to miss the team in action. Also, check out the new high school gymnasium if you haven’t where the volleyball team competes. Grab some popcorn from the concession stand and support the Cannon Falls volleyball team. Go Bombers!
