College Crossroads: Public Colleges

Public Colleges

-Class sizes at a public school, are approximately 50 people and often more than 100 in

introductory classes.

– Most public colleges include a program of teacher’s assistants. Commonly a number of

teachers would/will be graduate assistants and not full time tenured faculty.

-The price on the door  is substantially smaller than private, since they are getting funding

from the government. Although there are a lot of scholarships, they are not worth as much.

-Public  colleges have more diversity within students and faculties, since they accept more

students. The advantage is getting to know people from all walks of life.                  (*)

-Study abroad programs are available. But more abroad opportunities are available in private

universities generally than are available public schooling systems.
