The Cannon Falls Girls’ Basketball team ended their season with a tough loss against the Triton Cobras. The record for the team was 6-21 overall. Throughout the season, the team experienced immense growth and reached many goals from the beginning of the season. The girls’ confidence grew the more they played. The connections between the girls were evident on and off the court.
Anna Ritz is a senior for the Bombers and has recently ended her basketball career at Cannon Falls. When asked how she believes her team has improved from the beginning of the season to the end, she responded with, “As a team, I think the most noticeable improvement was our half-court defense.” Even without Ritz there next year, the Bombers have set goals to keep working through the summer into next season. “The thing I am going to miss most about basketball is my teammates, but I will also miss playing,” Ritz stated about what she will miss most about Bomber basketball.
“We learned how to move the ball better, and even though most moments we’re tough during games, we kept fighting, and we didn’t stop working when it wasn’t going our way, “ said Livia Tennessen, a sophomore for the Bombers Girls Basketball team, when asked about goals her team has achieved this season. Tenessen has many memories of this season, but she emphasized that her favorite memory was being able to grow close to everyone on the team, even the younger ones. She enjoyed all the moments they had together, especially going out to eat.
Nick Tenessen was the Head Coach for the Girls’ Basketball team this season. Tennessen emphasized that he feels very good about how the season went. He mentioned that his plan as a coach was to set goals for the team and individual players at the beginning of the season. Tennessen stated, “some of the goals I had planned to focus on for the team was team chemistry, better decision making and challenging every player to be more confident.” When asked what his favorite part of coaching the team was, Tennessen responded, “…I have enjoyed getting to know all the girls on the team and turning these young individuals into basketball players and better people off the court.”
Ultimately, the Cannon Falls Girls’ Basketball team has had a successful season, with lots of growth and chemistry as a team. The team has set many goals they are working to achieve in the years to come, especially since they are still a young team.
