At the beginning of last period on Monday, September 8, students and community members alike will pack the auditorium to witness a revered annual tradition: Homecoming coronation. With this event, an earlier-than-usual Homecoming week will commence at Cannon Falls, bringing a dose of school spirit to kick off the year.
While coronations have traditionally been held during the evening, scheduling conflicts pushed the 2025 ceremony up to seventh period in order to accommodate the Homecoming volleyball game at 6:30. The implications are unique – while coronation has historically always been a draw for big crowds, this year’s will almost certainly be more crowded than average due to the whole student body being in attendance.
That means more eyes on the Homecoming court, which consists of sixteen senior boys and girls elected by their classmates: Graham Bray, James Huseth, Charles Fick, Andrew McGeough, Grady Meyers, Micah Nelson, Cole Rapp, Torin Strecker, Cami Anderson, Falon Hepola, Kiley Jeppesen, Sophia Nerison, Ally Pagel, Abby Roepke, Alexa Shattuck, and Josie Sjoquist.
In the school days leading up to coronation, high school students will participate in a vote to single out one boy and one girl to be king and queen, the results of which will be revealed with the crowning of the lucky heirs of a classic high school ritual.
