Council Update

 Breast Cancer Awareness

On Thursday, October 31st, the Student Council held its first annual “Pink Out Day” and was considered a great success. A majority of the school body was adorned with pink accessories to support Breast Cancer Awareness. In total, $645 in change was raised in one afternoon. Mr. Quinlan’s high school homeroom and Mrs. Otto’s middle school homeroom were awarded with Hi-Quality Bakery donuts for their efforts of raising the most funds. Thank you to everyone who contributed. All donations will be sent to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

No-Shave November

Will

It was a pretty hairy subject, but No-Shave November has finally wrapped up. This year, the Student Council had students of all grade levels participating in this annual event. Whichever participant received the most votes based on their “before” and “after” pictures at the end of the month would walk away with a Subway gift card and of course a can of shaving cream (We’d give away a high quality shaver too, but it’s against school policy to give away a razor blade).                                                                After the votes were counted, Austin Noble claimed the prize.Austin 3

Philippines Typhoon Project

The Student Council held a 3 day homeroom fundraiser on  Friday the 22nd, Monday the 25th and Tuesday the 26th of November to help raise funds for the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. Since this is the season in which many show thanks for what they have, our goal is to assist in aiding those who recently had everything taken away from them by natural causes in the Philippines. A total of $457.23 was raised. Mrs. Hernke’s high school homeroom and Mrs. Miller’s and Mrs. Templin’s middle school homerooms (there was a tie) received cookies for raising the most donations. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross to aid those who fell victim to the typhoon.

SED Update

Members of the Cannon Falls Student Council ventured to Austin for the annual SED (Southeast Division) Conference, in which they shared ideas with other student council members from other schools in the division. The experience was great for the Cannon Falls Student Council, as they were able to communicate with other schools of various sizes about topics such as homecoming, fundraising and social media campaigning.
