Fall sports have wrapped up, and now, winter sports have arrived. The Bomber Boys Basketball 2024-2025 season began on November 18th. After last year’s season, where the Bombers made it to the section championship and fell short to the Lake City Tigers, the boys are ecstatic to be back.
This year’s team is led by senior captains, Gavin Johnson and Jack Meyers. Johnson expressed some goals this year, “Some team goals this season is to go a step further than we have the last two years.” With that, the boys are hoping to make it past the section final and punch a ticket to the 2025 Class AA State Tournament. In doing so, Johnson believes the biggest part of their game is going to be their defense. He says, “If we are able to hold teams to under 60 points a night, we will be very successful.”
Junior Ryan Hjellming plays an important role on the 2024-2025 team as a starter and great ball handler. One strength he believes the team has this year is the ability to shoot the ball, but adding to Johnson’s words, Hjellming believes they need to improve their overall defense before the postseason arrives.
The Bombers have started their season off strong with a record of 4-0. The boys had their home opener on Saturday, November 30th where they faced the La Crescent-Hokah Lancers; the Bombers came out on top beating the Lancers with a final score of 78-59. Following that, the Bombers played the Goodhue Wildcats winning 75-56 and then beating the Kasson-Mantorville Komets 77-75. On Friday, December 13th the boys got another victory with a final score of 65-51 against the Pine Island Panthers.
In the next couple of weeks, the boys will play the Byron Bears on Tuesday, December 17th, Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Friday, December 20th, and the Triton Cobras on Friday, December 27th, with hopes of maintaining their winning record.
