After a strong 2022-2023 season, the Bomber Boys Basketball team is ready to build off of the recent success. The 2023-2024 team made its debut on November 20th, a week following the girls’ opener. High levels of ecstatic energy were bouncing off of each of the players.

The Bomber’s record is 2-1 to start the season. Their first game took place on November 30th against the Chatfield Gophers ending up on top with the final score of 74-42. Following that, they played the Stewartville Tigers on December 7th but lost, with a final score of 41-63, and on December 10th they faced the Dover Eyota Eagles with a final score of 81-57 victory.

Junior, Jack Meyers, highlighted areas they could focus on to be successful this season, based on the few games they have participated in. He claimed, “I think if we limit turnovers and play good defense, we will have a very successful season and have a chance to win the section.” The boys are very confident in the victorious outcome they could create.

This year the boy’s basketball team is led by two senior captains: Dylan Banks and Aiden Johnson. According to some of their teammates, they are excellent ball players along with being great leaders. Meyers added, “This being their third season starting varsity brings a lot of experience.”

Senior captain Dylan Banks stated their main goal is getting to the Mayo Civic Center for the section championship game. He added, “When we are playing our best basketball, I think we can beat any team in our section when it comes to playoffs,” which helps keep the determination high to play their hardest. After losing four seniors with substantial roles last year, underclassmen have had to step up and fill roles. Banks shared they have been doing a great job so far.

The boys’ basketball team’s upcoming games are at Cannon Falls High School on Friday, December 15th against the Rochester Lourdes, and Tuesday, December 19th playing the opposing teams: the Rochester Lourdes Eagles and the Pine Island Panthers. The Bombers would love to see the support from the Cannon Falls community as their season progresses.

Hi, this is my third year in the Torch/Lantern extracurricular. I was a writer and had two stories published, but I have switched to photographer because I find it easier than writing 350 words.
