Fall sports have arrived, and the Bomber Football team is ecstatic to be back. Through the summer, the boys lifted three days a week and as the 2024 season began, they started practicing twice a day. Their hard work in the off season is evident and certainly paying off as they start their season with an impressive record of 3-1.
The Bomber football team is led by great leaders who have been a part of the team for numerous years. The 2024 captains are Preston Schoenfelder, Luke Huseth, August Wagner, Tysen Lind, and Jack Meyers. They keep the boys accountable and push them to be the best they can be.
Senior Jack Meyers expressed the basics –blocking and tackling– are the skills they could improve on. He added, “We also need to build depth at every position.” Meyers explained that the Bombers have been dealing with injuries this year, which requires players to learn more than one position on the field. In addition, Meyers highlighted some of the strengths their team holds. The biggest strength he believes their team holds is their speed. Meyers said, “Our linemen can fire out so fast it creates massive holes for the running backs to run through.” With the Bombers offense –a power t– this is crucial for them to be able to score. The athletes know their roles and jobs on the field which is extremely important when competing.
Senior Luke Huseth revealed that the 2024 Bomber team’s biggest focus for the season is getting better every day to hopefully make it to the state championship. He emphasized, “That doesn’t come easy though, it takes hard work and dedication to be a championship team.”
The boys came off a tough loss to Caledonia on September 20th with a final score of 20-41. Huseth stated that Caledonia was going to be one of their toughest competitors this season as they have grown a rivalry with them throughout the years, along with Chatfield who they will play on October 16th.
With homecoming week coming to a close, the Bombers ended the week with an impressive 40-8 victory over the Rochester Lourdes. After an impressive homecoming win, the Bombers are looking to tack on a few more wins in their upcoming games against the Triton Cobras on October 4th and the Dover-Eyota Eagles on October 11th.
