Cannon Falls Dance Looks to Continue Success at AA Level
The Cannon Falls dance team has a tall order ahead of them. The upcoming 2013-2014 season will be a groundbreaking year for the dance team, as they will be participating the the AA division for the first time. After numerous state championship appearances, including multiple state titles (last year’s high kick title being the most recent), the CFHS Dance team will now be competing against the likes of Austin, Holy Angels, and other bigger AA schools. After years of dominating the state tournament, the decision was made to up the stakes and enter a tougher division. The BDT is a young group this year, with only three seniors on the squad – Kelsie Beissel, Sheyenne Bauer, and Krystin Anderson, though, they are certainly not inexperienced with their recent state tournament endeavors. The three seniors, along with juniors Brooke Stein and Elizabeth Freeberg, are the team’s captains.
One of the seniors, Kelsie Beissel, admits that though the team may be nervous to dance in AA this year, the bigger challenge will give them the urge to work harder. “We may not be the best team in AA, but we will be the hardest working team,” Beissel says of the transition. One thing the team is looking forward to is proving that class A dance teams are not to be overlooked. “We want to show the other classes that class A is not a class to be taken lightly,” Beissel says, “and that just because we come from a small town doesn’t mean we don’t have a chance against the other two classes. We are going to give class A some justice.” The Bombers are set to begin the season December 7th at the Apple Valley Varsity Invitational.
