It’s looking very bright Under The Stars. On January 13th, the high school student council hosted a winter semi-formal in the atrium. The theme of the dance was “Under The Stars,” but that did not influence the way students dressed. The dance was meant for students to get together and have some fun dancing. A senior, Isabelle Vovk, who attended the dance said, “It was a great experience to have with my friends.”

The cost was $10.00 at the door. The admissions cost was used as a fundraiser for the group that hosted the dance, the high school student council. The atrium was decorated with blue and white balloons with some lights in different shapes and patterns, and a DJ was playing music. Most of the genres were upbeat songs that everyone could dance to. However, some people were just sitting around on their phones or just chatting. Fog was spewed into the air out of small fog machines, and the lights lit up the atrium.

The Electric Slide by Bunny Wailer came on and everyone gathered in the center and started dancing. Some slow and romantic songs, like Lover by Taylor Swift, came up, and people started grabbing their significant others or friends and dancing. The DJ often stopped the music at the most known parts and let the crowd sing it. Micah Katterjohn, a senior, said “I was convinced by friends to go to the dance last minute. I had fun though.”

There were free snacks that everyone could eat and enjoy, including donuts, chips, cookies, and more. At the end of every few songs, there was a raffle number drawn, and whoever’s number was called came up and got a gift basket of all goodies. The gift basket included some snacks and a Bubbl’r. The free snacks and raffle prizes were an attempt by the student council to increase attendance, as over the last few years fewer and fewer people have been attending school dances.

Overall most people enjoyed the dance and had fun. A freshman, Rylann Miller, attended the dance and said, “I thought it was fun. I thought I didn’t want to go at first but I knew I didn’t have to follow what other people were doing so I went and knew I would never regret it. I knew that I might as well go otherwise I would regret it and I loved it.” Although it was freezing out, some people still came to the dance. The snow did not stop people from dancing the night away.
