Destruction caused by a zombie apocalypse.

Have you ever wondered what a zombie apocalypse would be like in a day to day perspective? Day by Day Armageddon is a zombie apocalypse novel written as a diary of some unnamed character. The protagonist, a Naval Pilot stationed at San Antonio, Texas, heard the news about a virus in China that will quickly spread to America. The virus turns people into zombies, bringing widespread panic and chaos to much of the mainland United States and most likely the rest of the Americas. Unfortunately, the book doesn’t really talk about that. A quote from the author, J.L Bourne, briefly speaks on the issue. He stated, “…Well, for starters, it’s an island. Oahu and especially Honolulu were highly populated when the dead started coming back, and because it’s an island, there would have been no escape from the creatures. It will be very risky to attempt resupply with that many of those things massed in the areas we’ll be operating.” The government falls soon after the virus spreads, forcing those still alive to struggle to survive in the post-apocalyptic world. The nameless main character must overcome conflicts to stay alive.

I’m not usually one for a zombie book, yet I loved it

— Ethan White

The book is a day-by-day account of the events of the zombie apocalypse, hence the name of the book. This type of writing creates a very gritty, realistic view of what the author envisioned would happen in a zombie apocalypse. Although these styles of diary entries may deter some from reading the novel, they actually enhance the subject and make for a better experience for the reader. I’m not usually one for a zombie book, yet I loved it. Even if you’re not a fan of zombie books, I’d still recommend Day by Day Armageddon because it’s a very engaging book that can become borderline creepy at points. Keeping you on your toes all the way to the end, the book concludes with a major cliffhanger. Luckily, book two has already been published, so the reader can continue the journey.

For the majority of the book, the protagonist is just moving from place to place, which gets to be a little monotonous. Though, the way the author wrote Day by Day Armageddon made it very fun and exciting. The reader could sense in J.L Bourne’s writing how much he enjoyed the story, which made for an exceptional book. Anyone can write a book, but if they are passionate about it, it is so much better. Overall, Day by Day Armageddon is a fantastic story. People who enjoy zombie books or just books in general, I would strongly recommend this book to you, as it is an enjoyable read for anyone.
