Cannon Falls Bombers boys soccer faced off against Pine Island-Zumbrota Mazeppa in the first round of playoffs. The Cannon Falls Boys were ranked eighth and PIZM was ranked first, so they knew they had to kick it into gear in order to win the game. Unfortunately, the end result did not come out as they had wished and their season came to an end against PIZM.
Brandon White talked about his last soccer match as a Bomber: “We didn’t have the best effort that I have seen us play with,” so it wasn’t the best game to end for the senior soccer players. Otherwise, Brandon goes on to say that this is one of the best seasons he has had as a Bomber. The boy’s soccer team only had three seniors for the 2024 season; Cameron Addington, Brandon White, and Thomas Coyle. Junior, Micah Nelson, speaks on the loss of the seniors for the next season: “Since there were so few of them, we should do fine adjusting without them next year. But they will be greatly missed by all of us underclassmen, and we can’t wait to see what they do next year outside of Cannon Falls.”
A fellow junior, also captain, Andrew McGeough voices this team was full of optimism, growth, learning, fun, and memories. He goes on to say, “I can’t wait for my senior year to come up.” He and the other juniors have already been looking forward to the 2025 season and have come up with some goals: to have bigger community support and win more games. Andrew also continues on the new season, “I am excited to see how the team will improve in the off-season and I am excited to see who steps up as our new head coach.”
Luke Fimmen’s favorite part of this season was winning their first playoff game 7-1 against Butterfield-Odin. He also goes on to say that was the best game he played all season, “I had four goals, while Eli McGeough had two goals, Isaac Van Slyke had one, and Andrew McGeough had three assists.” Luke also notes how next season the boys hope to have more games with the score in their favor. To do so, Luke notes that passing and getting better touches on the ball will improve their play exponentially.
So even though the boys ended their season with a tough loss against Pine Island-Zumbrota Mazeppa, the returning players are eager to get back on the field and start out strong for the 2025 season. In the meantime, go out and support your other Bomber teams that will be playing in the upcoming seasons.
