As more and more teachers get vaccinated, there is an urge to send students back to full-time, in-person learning.

According to the MDH (Minnesota Department of Health), there were 145,196 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the state of Minnesota in the week of February 1-7, 2021. This is a decrease in doses since the previous two weeks. The peak of vaccine doses administered happened in the week of January 24, 2021. As of February 12, the MDH has reported that 661,187 people have their first dose of the vaccine and 227,551 have the completed vaccine series. Most of the people receiving their vaccine are aged 65 or more. The majority of the vaccines being shipped to Minnesota are from Pfizer, and the second most are from Moderna.

On February 17, Governor Walz updated the citizens of Minnesota on the COVID-19 situation. By March 8, Walz wants the option for some form of in-person learning 5 days per week for all students. All students will still have an option to do full-time distance learning. Students will still have to wear a mask and social distance when in school. According to his data, there are currently 25% of teachers vaccinated now, with the expectation that 18,000 more doses of the vaccine going out next week. It was stressed that the testing for teachers is extremely good, so as to pinpoint any asymptomatic spread of COVID. 

Within Cannon Falls Area Schools, 5 staff members are currently quarantining at home, after being identified as a close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or exhibiting symptoms of COVID. There are an additional 14 students who are also quarantining at home. Since September 8, 2020, 18 staff members and 29 students have tested positive for COVID. Both the elementary school and the middle/high school are continuing the hybrid learning model. 

In Goodhue County, as of February 12, there were currently 113 active cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, 12 were hospitalized. In total, there have been 3,766 cases of COVID and 65 deaths. There have been many doses of the COVID vaccine administered in Goodhue County. There are 5,515 people who have received at least the first dose of the COVID vaccine and 1,760 people who have completed their vaccine series. 

According to the MDH, February 13 alone brought 779 new cases of COVID-19 in Minnesota. 642 of those are confirmed positive cases from COVID tests, and the other 137 cases are from antigen tests, so they are only probable cases. There were 7 deaths reported on February 13 as well. In total, there have been 451,761 reported positive cases and 21,806 probable cases in Minnesota. There have been 6,376 COVID deaths total. 

In the week of February 7-14, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) reported 656,430 new cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. The CDC also reported 21,955 deaths from COVID in the same week. In total, since January 21, 2020, there have been 27,417,468 cases of COVID, and 482,536 deaths due to COVID.
