Under the lights at John Burch Park, it’s a little bit different then most nights. There are no football players on the field and no pep band or cheerleaders. October the seventh was Fields of Faith, a time where Cannon Falls students all come together and worship under the same lights to their god.

Fields of Faith is really about getting people together

— Karl Trost

This event is put on by the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes here in Cannon Falls, led by Bucky Lindow and several other students from and around the Cannon Falls area. Karina Ritzmann, who is a leader with FCA, describes it this way, “FCA is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It unites two passions, faith and athletics, to impact the world for Jesus Christ. They do this by running huddles and many youth and teen camps, as well as ministry for coaches and athletes.” FCA runs sports activities every Sunday, such as broomball, volleyball, dodgeball, and teambuilding games.

“Fields of Faith is really about getting people together, and worshiping Jesus Christ,” said Karl Trost, another leader here at FCA. Fields of Faith included people from six different churches, and had 146 people attend. The program including singing, playing a giant game of rock paper scissors, and a speech from Katherine Hoffman who spoke about her spiritual life and sports.

Also, James Bolin,  the leader of the entire Southeastern Minnesota FCA division, gave a speech on FCA’s theme this year, going undefeated. “The verse for the theme comes from Corinthians, 15:57, “stated Karl, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory, through our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Fields of Faith is much more than just strengthening the students’ Faith through their Lord; It’s about learning what it means to be a good competitor. They learned that truth beat’s lies, humility beats pride, and that faith beats doubt. Under the lights on Wednesday night, Cannon Falls students came together, and created a community with one another.
