By now everyone has heard about the new Five Nights At Freddy’s movie through media, family, friends, or seeing it in person. The movie is based off of Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s game series. For long-time fans, this movie is a dream come true. What makes it even better is that the creator of the game helped direct and produce the movie, which made many leap for joy.
Scott’s first game was made and released in August 2014. The second game was released in November of that year. After that, there were one or two games released every year. There was an announcement in 2015 for a movie, but it was stopped many times due to production errors, major script changes, and more. Now in 2023, we got the final product of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie in late October.
The movie begins with Mike Schmidt being fired from his mall security job for attacking a negligent father he thought was a kidnapper. His career counselor Steve Raglan tells him about a night job at a run-down pizzeria for kids. Mike initially turns down the offer, but in an effort to keep custody of his little sister, he accepts. On the first night of the job, he falls asleep and dreams of his younger brother’s kidnapping. He sees five children who were not there when his brother was kidnapped. Mike tries to talk to them, but they all run from him. On his next shift, he meets a police officer named Vannessa who introduces him to the animatronics Freddy, Chica, Foxy, and Bonnie in the showroom. She tells him the pizzeria was shut down due to the murder of five children there in the 1980’s, and that the bodies and killer were never found. Mike now wants to know what happens to the kids, but his babysitter goes missing, and now Mike has to bring his sister Abby to work with him. When he leaves her alone in his office to patrol the pizzeria, she sneaks out. Mike comes back and Abby is missing from the office. He hears a scream coming from the showroom.
8th grader Brenna McCarthy said “I really liked how Chica’s hand can detach from her body to hold and puppet the cupcake. I think Bonnie should have been more purple, but overall the movie was great.” “The movie itself was amazing, I do have some minor issues with it. But with how difficult making the movie must have been, it was amazing to watch. They had amazing actors for everyone as well,” says Apollo Holmen, another 8th grader after watching the movie.
I loved the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie so very much. The little easter eggs alluding to each game from the game series made it all the more fun to watch. This movie brought the happy yet creepy vibes in the games to life. The movie showed how the animatronics interacted with children, and they appeared as happy moments in, but there were seriously creepy undertones to all the scenes. Really any scene with the animatronics had creepy undertones regardless if it was supposed to be a creepy scene. Overall this movie was so much fun to go and see. Movie director Emma Tami said in an interview she is hoping to create a second movie. It hasn’t been confirmed, but the way the movie ended gives hints to a second one being made. For now, all we can do is hope and enjoy the movie we currently have.
