NHS and Interact students pack students backpacks with food for the weekend
Elementary students come to school with backpacks and leave school with backpacks, however some come without breakfast and go home to find nothing at the kitchen table. A lack of nutritional food at home can really limit a student’s potential to academically succeed at school. That’s why the elementary school has started ‘packing for the weekend’.
When a family meets a specific criteria, on Wednesdays after school National Honor Society, and Interact members pack students’ backpacks with food to help those in need to have meals over the weekend. The best part of the whole ordeal is not only do the students get fed, but they don’t have to worry about being teased. By concealing it in their backpacks kids can take the bus and be just like any normal kid – riding home with a backpack.
There is a lot of need in our community, but it’s good to know there is a lot of help coming along with it!
