Football Finale
The Cannon Falls Football Team’s season was a success, but it came to a bittersweet end.
The Cannon Falls Bomber Football Team’s season came to a close on November 5th with an exciting game against Plainview Elgin Millville in the Section 1AAA championship. Throughout the thrilling game, the crowd was on the edge of their seats and were always ready to cheer for the players. A large group of fans came to watch the section championship and encourage the Bomber Football Team.
“The bomber football Fan base is second to none, the pride and school spirt is amazing. If some big plays are made the student sections begins to roar. Countless times the Varsity players and I have looked into the crowd to get a little extra motivation to make something happen out on the field. I love the feeling of being able to put on for my town and school.” said senior Carson Hammel.
The football players received lots of support from community members, family, friends, and alumni at the game. Although the Bomber Football Team ended up losing the game 21-18, everyone agrees that the boys playing on the field gave it their all this year.
“The effort was great this season. We would grind out our work days to get better every week and I think that showed. Whenever we started slacking in practice the coaches would remind us of the goals we set for ourselves and for the team and that allowed us to refocus and have a good practice.” said, senior captain, Colton Loeschke.
Even though the season did not end how many people wanted it to, the Bomber Football Team still had a spectacular season. With a record of 8:2, there is no question that the boys always tried their best during all of the games. The two losses this season were to Chatfield during the regular season and to Plainview Elgin Millville at the Section 1AAA championship. The team did a fantastic job this season and should be proud of what they have accomplished.
Varsity football coach Tyler Quinlan said “What I’m most proud of is how this year’s team did an exceptional job of continuing to elevate the standard for what success means in Bomber football by consistently demonstrating resilience and selflessness. To see how hard the players worked to better themselves everyday and how those efforts paid off throughout our season is extremely rewarding and a testament to the commitment our team made to being their best.”
The football team in Cannon Falls is losing ten amazing seniors this year. The seniors are Sam Bahr, Ashton Beyer, Bailey Dwyer-Schacht, Carson Hammel, Riley Keenan, Spencer Krinke, Colton Loeschke, Kendrick Otto, Charlie Tipton, and Beau Zimmerman. All of these players have put in a tremendous amount of work into the football program and helped the team reach their goals for the season. As the crowd gathered onto the field to congratulate and support the seniors at the completion of the Section Championship, it was obvious that the seniors on the team will be greatly missed by the community.
Senior, Erin Kremers, who was at the final game of the season, said “It was so sad knowing that it was the last time I’d get to watch those senior boys play”
