Friday pep fest
The last day of Homecoming week, students gathered for their annual pep fest which is filled with announcements and activities.
Homecoming week was full of exciting events and enthusiastic students. The end of the fun-filled week was quite thrilling due to the win pulled off by the football team. It was almost as if the activity filled week paved a path to that victorious ending. One of the festivities that led up to the shining moment of our school’s football team being declared homecoming champions was the pep fest. “This year’s pep fest was quite an improvement from the last few years,” says freshman Matthew Giese. “It involved the crowd a little more than it has in the past which made it more enjoyable.”
A similar statement was made by most students when asked if the pep fest was better or worse than last year’s. “My favorite part was the instant stress that took over the room when the scavenger hunt started. Everybody is rooting for the people in their grade to win, which makes the anxiety in the room rise,” says freshman Bianca Caputo. Bianca was not a contestant in the scavenger hunt, but she did have to give a player her glasses and one of her shoes. “Giving players some of my stuff made me feel like I was actually in the scavenger hunt, which made it a lot more enjoyable.” For the second year in a row, the student council used a t-shirt cannon to get the audience more involved. Bead necklaces were also thrown into the audience to give people a chance to snag some bomber gear if they were unable to purchase any from the concessions that week.
The pep fest set the stage for this year’s homecoming week to be a step up from last year in more than one way. The biggest difference was how much the audience was incorporated into it because they were a lot more involved in the festivities. Hopefully next year’s pep fest is just as much of a hit as it was this year.
