The Cannon Falls Girls Basketball team played neck and neck with the Pine Island Panthers, a conference opponent, on January 14th. The Bombers pulled out a win with an incredible effort; the end score was 68-62. The game was hard fought and the Bombers worked to the very end to earn the win. The Bombers have a record of 5-10 so far in the season. They have shown major improvements over the course of the season so far and are excited to see how far they come in the rest of the season.
Libby Sampson is a freshman for the Bombers and a big part of the team. When asked how she feels about the season so far, she replied with, “I feel this season has been a major improvement from last year and that it’s been going really well.” Sampson has also emphasized how much she’s enjoyed the season with her friends. “My favorite part of the season so far was getting a conference win against Pine Island,” stated Sampson when asked about her favorite part.
“I think our team chemistry has already progressed a lot even just halfway into the season,” Josie Sjoquist stated. Sjoquist is a junior for the Bombers. She talked about how they all hang out not only on the court but also off the court. Sjoquist stated, “For me, it seems like we’re not only just teammates but friends as well.” When asked what goals she and her team have for the rest of the season, Sjoquist replied, “I would say our main goal right now is to consistently compete the entire game.” Sjoquist is excited for the games the rest of the season.
Another freshman for the Bombers is Claire Meyers. Meyers’ favorite part of playing basketball with her team is “spending time with them each day.” She loves being able to see her friends and play the sport with them. “I think as a team we could all improve on our turnovers,” Meyers stated when asked what her team could improve on. She expressed how they make a lot of them when under pressure, which is common with the teams they play.
Adam Templin is the Assistant Coach for the CF Girls Basketball team. Templin believes that the team is off to a strong and competitive start this year. “As a group, we are younger than almost every team we play, but we are playing teams tougher than in the past and that continues to improve each week,” stated Templin. He also really highlighted how the Bombers have really improved in playing team basketball. Templin added, “As our team chemistry continues to build we will be in position to get several wins in the 2nd half of the season.”
The Cannon Falls Girls Basketball team continues to grow and improve with every game that goes by. The girls have set many goals for the rest of the season that they are striving to meet. The Bombers have many games for the rest of January and February, and they hope to see people come out and support them.
